Funding Opportunities for Ecopreneurists

We have heard too may times now that the dismal economy does not bode well for investments in funds or real estate. And given the credit crisis, people are not regarding their favorite banks as reliable either. However, all this might just be a cloud with a silver lining when it comes to entrepreneurs.

Accredited investors are always looking for interesting investment avenues. While new business ventures have always been attractive in an economy, the truth is that a recession makes many investments even more viable. According to Entrepreneur Director Maggie Jacobberger, of the Keiretsu Forum, angel investors look for unique investment avenues in a down economy because they can acquire a larger stake in the start-up and a higher return on equity.

The Keiretsu Forum is the world’s largest angel investor network with 750 accredited investor members throughout seventeen chapters on three continents. Its members have invested over $180m in 200 companies in technology, consumer products, healthcare/life sciences, real estate and other segments with high growth potential. Forum members collaborate in the due diligence, but make individual investment decisions, with rounds in the range of $250k-$2m.

Although members typically investigate a wide variety of deal flow across various industry sectors, Jacobberger says that digital media and clean tech are hot investment sectors right now. The forum will be holding their  Angel Capital Expo on April 30th. This gathering will bring together angel investors, and entrepreneurs seeking funding capital to grow their businesses.  The keynote speak for this year’s expo is former California Governor Jerry Brown. is Applications from interested entrepreneurs are due on Friday, April 3rd.  For more information on the expo, click here.
