The micro-blogging sensation was featured on our first two lists (a three-tweet), and it’s certain to be a fixture. Tweet Congress won the SXSW activism award, and celebrity Tweeps Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Rose Tweeted their two million followers about ending malaria. Max Gladwell recently initiated the #EcoMonday follow meme as a way to connect and organize the Green Twittersphere. (Note: I wrote about this here.) [...]

Thanks for the post, Maryanne! #ecomonday is off to a great start. We'd be remiss if we didn't credit http://www.twitter.com/sheagunther for his key role in starting this very important meme. While FollowFriday is a good start, it's just too noisy for those who are primarily concerned with green Tweets. We're hoping that the #ecomonday tag and @ecomonday account can become an organizing force for the green Twitter community.

Should also mention that the @ecomonday account only follows those who are referred (or more referrals) through the #ecomonday hashtag. It won't follow you back just b/c you follow. You must have either been referred or make a referral via #ecomonday. So it's a unique filter mechanism. You know that anyone @ecomonday follows has either been recommended by a third party or has recommended others. Of course, we monitor the stream and will unfollow if someone is spammy or not relevant.
