My colleague and friend Karen Lee (aka Ecokaren and editor of our sister site Green Living Ideas) was invited to give a talk on “How to Green Your Business and Save Money” at ‘Dreamers into Doers’ Annual Conference. This event sponsored by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) took place in NYC last week. ‘Dreamers into Doers’ is a Martha Stewart community that celebrates talented and creative women who turn their dreams into careers they love.
Karen represented her EcoEtsy team and spoke to 80+ lucky participants on how to green their businesses and save money.
The Eco Etsy team is a global team of eco-minded Etsy sellers, with a mission dedicated to protecting the planet by utilizing methods to reduce carbon footprints in managing their businesses in the most eco-friendly manner.
“We are just as determined to use recycled materials in our creations as we are about recycling packaging materials. We take the safety of the environment in mind in the way that we manage our businesses and create our items. We strive to grow as a team that focuses on promoting eco-living in our personal lives as well as in our businesses, and educating others about the importance of being environmentally responsible.”
Karen, co-captain of the Eco Etsy Team, plays many roles- mom, writer, businesswoman, green lifestyle advocate and stands for everything the ‘Dreamers into Doers’ program represents! But Karen does not call herself a rigid environmentalist. Instead she says,
“…but it does really bother me that we live in a disposable and “we-wanted-it-yesterday” society and that “quick and convenience” takes priority over the environment. I’m guilty of that sometimes too but I am trying to change. And I want to do it in a fun and simple way, without being too radical or becoming a pack rat by hauling my neighbors’ garbage into my house for reusing”
So great choice Martha Stewart. Go Karen!
