StartUp Stay – An Entrepreneurial Way to Travel
The life of an entrepreneur is exciting, commanding, and fraught with expenses. With conferences in all 50 states at any time of year, networking and learning can be quite expensive. Let’s not even talk about any potential sales calls or presentations you may have to make to continue to grow your business! But now Start-up Stay allows you to find an entrepreneur to stay with!
A new business, StartUp Stay began in 2011 as an idea and was brought to life as an invite-only beta released site in May 2012. Ultimately, the goal of a user on StartUp Stay is to type in their travel destination and find someone in that city to stay with, show them around, or just to meet and enjoy some coffee. By saving money on accommodation costs, entrepreneurs can use their hard-earned cash for other great activities.
Entrepreneurs often have to shell out major cash for a room, car rental and/or gas, and food (which, let’s face it, is usually less-than-desired fast food). After receiving your invitation (don’t worry, I got mine within 24 hours), StartUp Stay allows you to create a bio about yourself and launch yourself into the world of networking. Because it’s a global network of both travelers and hosts, you can easily find someone in or near your destination.
Does staying with a complete stranger in a new city seem a bit sketchy to you? That’s okay! There are reviews of hosts so you have a first-hand experience before you even contact anyone. From Dublin to Dubai, from Auckland to Zurich, you’ll be able to find someone to meet for coffee, or crash at their pad for a night or two. Perhaps you’ll even meet your entrepreneurial “other-half” so you can join together and create a global force to be reckoned with!
Next time you’re heading out for a sales call or tech conference, make sure you pop over to StartUp Stay and see if you want to grab coffee with another equally awesome entrepreneur. Better yet, if you really get a good vibe, crash on their couch! When you get back home, be sure to post your experience on their Facebook page. I am definitely going to try this! Will you?
