Custom Knitted Sweaters Fit Perfectly, Generate Zero WasteWith the cooler weather of fall upon us, it sure feels like sweater season. If you’re like many of us, out of all of those sweaters you own, there’s probably only a few that fit just right, and the rest only make the grade because they’re warm.

But if you could get a sweater knitted to your exact measurements, you might want to ditch all the others, because let’s face it, we all want our clothes to fit just right. And soon, you could be able to order a custom-fit, 100% Rambouillet wool, American made sweater, and support a small, ethically driven, outdoor apparel company at the same time.

According to Appalatch, up to 30% of the material used in conventional sweater manufacturing ends up as waste, but by knitting them to order, that could be cut to a level of near zero waste, which is always a win, no matter the industry.

Appalatch is working toward purchasing a computerized knitting machine, which can turn out custom apparel knit exactly to size (somewhat akin to a 3D printer), giving their customers an heirloom quality sweater that fits their exact body proportions. To that end, they’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds, and backers willing to pony up at least $189 to the project can be one of the first to own a one-of-a-kind custom fitted sweater.
