Why MATTER Matters

Co-founders Ren Yung Ho and Yvonne wanted to create a brand of apparel that would celebrate the heritage, culture, and artisan skills of the people who made their clothing. Their goal was to build a community of people who appreciate why and where something is made. In 2014, they made that dream a reality with the launch of their company, MATTER.

The company sees its mission as having three components. The first is to foster collaborations between designers and artisans. Second, it seeks to inspire consumers to value provenance and process. Third, MATTER Prints wants to pioneer industry change and sustainability for rural textile communities.

The company specializes in apparel that is comfortable and adaptable to various climates and locations. It is particularly suited for those who travel frequently. It is a socially motivated business that promotes affordable luxury, thoughtful design, and provenance. Its clothing has stories to tell that consumers can connect with.

Ren says, “We’re passionate about fostering a culture grounded on provenance, we want to encourage our consumers to uncover and value the process of where and why something is made.”

The company began by making and marketing pants because they are universal in their appeal. They also celebrate the spirit of travel and adventure. If you have set your sights on exploring, pants can be stylish and durable at the same time.

They are also fully adaptable to a variety of seasons as the wearer moves from place to place around the world. During the year, the company is able to stay with the same, Asian inspired designs while rotating the fabrics and patterns offered.

MATTER’s designs emphasize versatility with flexible closure instead of zippers that snag or rust. The pants adjust easily to any body style and are adaptable to a variety of situations.

Making pants left lots of fabric left over, so Ren and Yvonne expanded their offerings to include #MATTERmini, using offcut fabrics to make dresses and pants for children. From there, they branched out into crop tops, jumpsuits, and rompers. Their latest addition to the line is an array of blockprinted and jamdani scarves and accessories, MATTER customers enjoy free shipping anywhere in the world and can return items up to 30 days after purchase. Delivery time to the US and UK is 14 days or less.
