About the Panelists

Tom Szaky zimbio comTom Szaky is the CEO and Founder of TerraCycle, which is an international upcycling and recycling company that collects difficult-to-recycle packaging and products and repurposes the material into affordable, innovative products.

TerraCycle works with more than 100 major brands in the U.S. and 22 countries overseas to collect used packaging and products that would otherwise be destined for landfills. It repurposes that waste into new, innovative materials and products that are available online and through major retailers.

Bilikiss Adebiyi echoinggreen orgBilikiss Adebiyi is the CEO and Co-founder of Wecyclers, a social enterprise which leverages low-cost, scalable, easily adaptable technology to collect recyclable waste at the household level.

Lagos, Nigeria faces a sobering waste crisis that will only worsen as the city’s population of 18 million people continues to soar. The overburdened local government collects only 40% of city garbage and a mere 13% of recyclable materials are diverted from landfills. Wecyclers solves the urban waste challenge for households and recyclers by using a fleet of low-cost cargo bicycles to offer convenient household recycling service in densely populated low-income neighborhoods. Households are awarded points through an SMS-cellphone system for recycling, which can be redeemed for useful items like basic food items or cell phone minutes.

It is going to be an interesting conversation and I am very excited to talk to both of these pioneers.
